BIBLE OF DREAMS Juno Reactor (WaxTrax) Beating Orbital at their own game is one helluvan accomplishment. And perhaps an overly bold statement for anyone to make about Juno Reactor, regardless of their tenure on the electronic dance scene. But that could be the case with their latest, Bible of Dreams. It may be impossible to declare one as superior, but the comparison is more than worthy. From smart packaging (import card case seals by magnetic strip--brilliant!) and seductive, suggestive artwork, to consistently perfect tracks, Bible of Dreams gets further in-side Orbital's niche with each listening. Bent more toward trance aesthetics than dance politics, starter tracks "Jardin De Cecile" and "Conga Fury" set a firy pace before the Orby "God is God" lurches into a dubby-wide groove. And at no point is that Alex Paterson trippiness weak, as innocuous jungle pulses morph into Vath-ful four-banging on "Komit," while star twinklings smooth over the slap-bass on "Swamp Thing." Yeah, Juno Reactor don't have a spy theme (or a soundtrack deal, for that matter), but they don't need it; they've got the good book with their name on it. (Laz) In a nutshell: Praise indeed be to Juno Reactor! |
